The Directive 2013/55/UE amending the directive on the recognition of professional qualifications entered into force on 17 January 2014. The Members States had until 18 January 2016 to transpose its content in national legislation. The Directive amends the Directive 2005/36/EC on the recognition of professional qualifications and the Regulation n°1024/2012 on administrative cooperation through the Internal Market Information System.
The revised Directive on the Recognition of Professional Qualifications provides for the introduction of an alert mechanism for professionals who are involved in the education of minors or whose activities have an impact on the safety of minors Patients. As such, health professionals are of course affected by this mechanism.
The European professional card (EPC) is an electronic procedure introduced by the 2013 revision of the directive on the recognition of professional qualifications. It is meant to ease the mobility of regulated professions, including health care professions, within the European Union thanks to digital tools.
